Obituary of Merle E. DeMott

Of Mt. Morris, age 64, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at Avalon Hospice. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris. Pastor Alonzo Vincent will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. There will be graveside military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #158. The family will receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Monday, November 15, 2010 from 12:00noon until 8:00pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris or Charity of Choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Merle was born June 10, 1946 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo and Mary (Pickett) DeMott. He and Paula Card were united in marriage September 13, 1969. Merle was in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, for two years. Later, he worked at General Motors, Buick until he retired in 1999. The Harmonica Man will be remembered for loving life, his sense of humor and his caring, compassionate ways. Merle leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 41 years, Paula; son, Douglas DeMott and girlfriend, Celena; daughter, Kerry Ann DeMott; one grandson, Randy DeMott; sister, Marge McCallister; brother, William DeMott; special pet, Stella; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends, including, Ross, Al, and Vern. He was preceded in death by his parents and father- and mother-in-law, Norm and Ardis Card. The family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses, family and friends for the fellowship and special consideration during this time.
