Of Otisville, age 72, died Thursday, January 6, 2011. The funeral service will take place, 1:00pm Monday, January 10, 2011 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Mr. Roger Smith will officiate with cremation to follow. Family will receive friends on Saturday from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, Sunday, 1:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm, and Monday from noon until time of service at 1:00pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Association of Physically Handicapped. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Marie was born October 10, 1938 in Midland, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin and Elsia (Seaman) Smith. She graduated from Midland High School in 1956 and Marie worked in the accounting field for many years.
Marie was a very strong advocate of the American Disabilities Act. She was a very active member of the National Association of the Physically Handicapped (NAPH). Marie held many offices in the Arrowhead Chapter, as well as the secretary, treasurer, and auditor of the state and national chapters. She was very involved in the operation of the Bingo Hall operated by Flint Arrowhead Chapter.
In her free time, Marie enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and spending time with her family and friends.
Marie will be loved and remembered forever by her companion of 25 years, Robert L. Fletcher, son, Daniel Poole, mother, Elsia Smith, one sister, Marilyn and husband Francis Johnson, four brothers; Ernest and wife Tillie Smith, Vernon and wife MaryEllen Smith, Donald and wife Ruth Smith, and Roger and wife Jill Smith, brother-in-law, Mike McLaughlin, her adored Fletcher Family; Jeff, Jason, Justin, Jennifer, Jamie, Jonathan, and Jadriene, their spouses, 13 grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, husband, LeRoy Estes and two sisters; Brenda Bailey and Beverly McLaughlin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to MarieAaas caregivers; visiting nurse, Darlene and special nurse Matt Stizman. Home health partners, Chris, Marcie, Matt McQuire, and Laura Moffit; very special nurse and friend Anne Schmidt.
