Of Mt. Morris, age 87, died Friday, July 31, 2009 at his home. The funeral service will take place 10:00am, Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Deacon Michael Dear will officiate with cremation to follow. Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #158. GeorgeAaas family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00am until 3:00pm, then from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. On Tuesday from 9:00am until time of service at 10:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Neurofibromatosis Foundation or to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. George "Pops" was born October 10, 1921 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Elizabeth (Tyson) Howart. He and Luella Lee were united in marriage on August 26, 1940. George attended St. Mary Catholic School in Flint. George was a Private First Class in the United States Marine Corps serving in WWII. While serving in Iwo Jima, George was wounded in action on March 14, 1945 and received the Purple Heart. George worked for General Motors for 39.9 years before retiring in 1981. He was a member of UAW Local #599 and a member of VFW Post #10825 in Florida. He enjoyed spending time with his family, square dancing, hunting, fishing, latch rugs and joking around. George is survived by his children; Roger W. Howard, Sr. and his wife, Patsy, Cammie Foster and her husband, Dale Sr., and Tammie LaFray, grandchildren; Debbie LeClaire and her husband, Mike, Roger Howard, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, Karri Lido and her husband, Jeff, Dale Foster Jr., Melissa McCall and her husband, Terry, great-grandchildren; Michael, Madison, Logan, Jaden "JJ", Josie, Daynaira, and Collin. Several nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Howart and Elizabeth Howart (Tyson), his wife, Luella Howard, brothers, Henry Martin and William and his sister, Dorothy.
