Obituary of Donald Briggs

Age 84, of Vassar died Sunday, February 2, 2014. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 am, on Friday, February 7, 2014, at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar with Rev. David Wermuth officiating with burial to follow in Tuscola Township Cemetery. Donald's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm, Friday, from 9:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the family. Donald was born April 6, 1929, in Vassar. He is the son of Raymond and Hortence (Decou) Briggs. Donald married Ethel Burrows on April 3, 1948, in Vassar, Michigan. Sadly she preceded him in death. Donald worked for Grede and Eaton Foundries for many years until his retirement. He owned and operated Briggs Trucking and loved his trucks. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, going to family picnics and barbeques and loved eating his chili and coney dogs. He is survived by three children, Linda S. Middleton, Tammy Rawat and Raymond Briggs; 12 grandchildren, Debbie Hecht, Jodey (Gregory) Hecht, Sherry March, Christine Clemens, Donald Briggs, Larry I. Middleton, Chantel (Joseph) Saincome, Kristian (Jennifer) Briggs, Melissa (Arthur) Hastedt, Bruce (Lyndsay) Aulbert, Jonathan Aulbert and Abigail Rawat; 20 great-grandchildren, Joana March, Jessica Hecht, Kelsey Hecht, Pauline Hecht, Gregory March, Michael Clemens, Evan Hecht, Kara Middleton, Brandon Beach, Tyler Middleton, Emily Beach, Jacob Hecht, Dominic Prezzato, Aiden Briggs, Kyle Briggs, Alexis Hastedt, Carter Briggs, Seth Hecht, Alayna Hecht and Bruce Aulbert, III; great-great grandson, Ty Call; five siblings, Pearl Elaine Martin, Naomi (James) Fuller, Marilyn (Willard) Robinson, Donna Cross, David (Ruth) Briggs; daughter-in-law, Linda Louise Briggs; very special friend, Arlene and special companion, his dog ChiChi. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ethel, son Donald Briggs, Jr., sister Linda S. Briggs, son-in-law Larry Middleton, brother-in-law Larry Cross and brother-in-law Melvin Martin.
