Obituary of Helene Currie

Of Clio, age 94, died Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Birchwood Meadows. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00am, Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and 5:00pm to 8:00pm. Tuesday evening, family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary at 6:00pm. On Wednesday morning, Helene will be taken to church, where her family will receive freinds from 10:30am until time of Mass at 11:00am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Charity of your Choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Helene was born November 1, 1916 in Farrell, Pennsylvania the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen and Mary (Kostandin) Barbat. She and Richard Currie were united in marriage on May 12, 1935. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris and formerly a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church in Flint. She was a member of St. Mary Altar Society, a former member and Past President of St. Agnes Altar Society, Past President of St. Agnes Parish Activities and a 50 Year Member of the Daughters of Isabella, circle 530. Helene also served as a Past Board Member of the North Flint Credit Union and a Past Board Member and Volunteer of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. She was employed by Kroger as a meat wrapper for many years, retiring in 1973. Helene leaves to cherish her memory,son Mark and wife Janet Currie, son-in-law Don Ernst, daughter-in-law, Marianne Currie, 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren sister-in-law, Dorothy Barbat, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Richard, daughter, Norma Ernst, son Richard Currie one granddaughter, 3 brothers, and 1 sister. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice Advantage, especially Mary and Thelma, the staff at Birchwood Meadows, and Dr. Peter Moody for all their caring and support.
