Obituary of Pedro Martinez

Of Flint, age 57, died Monday, June 13, 2011 at home. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, June 18, 2011 at the Our Lady of Guadalupe in Flint. Honorary Pallbearers will include, Vic Rueda, Paul Scott, Lee Arredondo, Pedro Martinez, Jr., Frank Velez, Jr., Michael Martinez, Santiago Velez, Sr., and Alfonso Martinez. Cremation will follow. Rev. Fr. Timothy Nelson will officiate. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, June 16, 2011, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm and then on Friday from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. On Friday evening, family, friends, and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 7:00 pm. On Saturday morning, family will meet at the funeral home to process to the church at promptly 9:00am. Pete will lie in state from 10:00am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the Family Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Pedro "Pete" was born April 7, 1954 in Brownsville, Texas the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cipriano and Elisa (Meza) Martinez, Sr. He and Rose Velez were united in marriage on April 8, 1974.
Pete was a practical joker who always welcomed any and everyone into the family. He had a big heart and would help anyone who needed it. He enjoyed horseshoes, fishing, hunting, camping, family events, and cooking for family and friends.
Pedro leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 37 years, Rose; son, Pedro Martinez, Jr. (Angel); daughters, Elisa and husband, Pablo Gaona and Margaret Martinez (Dustin); fourteen grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Alejandra, Selena, Tomas, Esai, Victoria, Sergio, Alexis, Francisco, Mikey, Krissie, Arianna, and Alexius; one great-granddaughter, Nadia; brothers, Cipriano, Jr. (Ninfa), Juan (Stella), Franciso, and Alfonso (Alma); sisters, Lupe (Emillio), Marta, Jane (Roy), Yolanda, Mellin, and Rosa; his four-legged "babies", Chopper, Baby Girl, and Dozer; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Pedro Martinez III; niece, Rebecca Aguilar; nephew, Jesse Aguilar, Jr.; brother-in-law, Luis Velez; and father-in-law, Frank Velez, Sr.
