Obituary of Doris May Jean

Of Mt. Morris, age 87, died Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at Fostrian Manor, in Flushing. The funeral service will take place 1:00pm, Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Colonial Hills Baptist Church in Mt. Morris. Pastor Doug Klein will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Cremation & Tribute Services on Friday, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Doris will lie in state at church from 12:00 noon until time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris or Carriage Town Ministries. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Doris was born April 6, 1924 in Mt. Morris, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bryan and Dora May (Sanders) Shanks. She and Raymond Jean were united in marriage October 12, 1944 in Mt. Morris, he preceded her in death on May 2, 2003. Doris was an active member of First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris and she enjoyed sewing, singing and helping others. Doris leaves to cherish her memory, three sons, Gary and wife Jennie Jean, Robert and wife Deb Jean, and Philip and wife Belinda; eight grandchildren, Kimberly, Michele, Michael, Kristen, Stephen, Elisa, Nicolas and Gabriel; seven great-grandchildren; Trista, Madison, Kendall, Austin, Jared, Brent and Bradley; one great-great granddaughter, Emma, three brothers, James, Bryan and Paul Shanks; two sisters, Orpha Nelson and Jeanette DeKalb; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, infant sister, Emily and brother, John Shanks.
