Obituary of Betty Frances Miller

Of Mt. Morris, age 88, died Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at Avalon Hospice. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, October 14, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris. Pastor Alonzo Vincent will officiate with burial to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services on Thursday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Friday morning, Betty will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan or Liberty Cemetery in Caruth, Missouri. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Betty was born March 20, 1923, in Caruth, Missouri, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willie and Nell (Thompson) Akers. She and Samuel Miller were united in marriage in September of 1942; he preceded her in death on February 4, 1979. Betty enjoyed her grandchildren, was always neighborly and bowled in leagues for years. Left to cherish her memory are, three children, Ronald Miller, Gary Miller and Sherry and husband, Alan Schlicht; two grandchildren, Kim and husband, Kris Murphy and Michael and wife, Carrie Schlicht; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Ashley and Jacob Murphy; brother-in-law, Tom Chandler; nephew, Joe Chandler and family; niece, Diane Brockmeier and family; and friend and caregiver, Bev Shier. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Samuel; brother, Billy Akers; and two sisters, Marguerite Chandler and Lavern Akers.
