Obituary of William I. Griggs

Of Mt. Morris age 54, died Tuesday, October 18, 2011, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will take place 12:30 pm, Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Cody Mansfield will officiate with burial to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery, with graveside military honors. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 25, 2011, from 10:00 am until time of service at 12:30 pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Sonny was born September 30, 1957, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Osee and Ida (Anderson) Griggs. He and Donna Bernecker were united in marriage September 10, 2011, in Mt. Morris. Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War, in Special Operations. He then worked at Ross Asphalt for over 25 years. Left to cherish his memory, wife, Donna; two daughters, Jennifer and husband Randy Bonter and Brook Jeffries; two step-sons, Adam and wife Cody Kaminer and Scott and wife Amanda Rice; 13 grandchildren; two sisters, Luann and husband John Nichols and Carla and husband Bill Bohnard; and brother, Vaughn Griggs, cousin, Pam and husband Harold Brewer; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and cousin, Becky Griggs.
