Obituary of Thelma Gilkes

Of Standish, previously of Mt. Morris, age 95, died Thursday, October 27, 2011, at St. Mary's of Michigan Standish Hospital. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, October 31, 2011 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Ron Lucas will officiate with burial to follow in Thetford Township Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday from 4:00 pm until 8:00pm, Sunday from 2:00 noon until 8:00 pm and Monday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Faith Baptist Church, Standish. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Thelma was born September 8, 1916, in Millington, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Bertha (Zacharius) Draper. She and Gerald Gilkes were united in marriage August 4, 1933. Gerald preceded her in death October 12, 1995. Thelma loved her Lord, and praised Jesus every chance she could. She was a caring and loving mother, who will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are, son, Edward and wife, Judy Gilkes; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Gerald; daughter, Joan Shearer; son, Ronald Gilkes; granddaughter, Margaret Ann; two sisters; and one brother.
