Obituary of Thomas Grier Goforth

Of Vassar, age 84, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Tendercare Health Care Center of Frankenmuth. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Alzheimers Association or Vassar Veterans Military Support Group. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Thomas was born July 22, 1927, in Gaston County, North Carolina, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Ada (Sellergems) Goforth. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He and Patricia Wilson were united in marriage December 5, 1955. Tom worked for General Motors, Ternstedt for 30 years, retiring in 1983. He enjoyed woodworking, collecting antiques and traveling. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Patricia; three children, Marvin Goforth, Raye and husband, Joe Rader and Garrison and wife, Trasi Goforth; five grandchildren, Tricia Mae Hauger, Preston, Tom, Garrett and Emma Goforth; one nephew and four nieces and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.
