Of Mt. Morris, age 86, died Sunday, November 20, 2011, at Genesys Hospice Care Center. The funeral service will take place11:00 am, November 23, 2011, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Dale Lotter will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Ray's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers please direct memorial contributions to the family fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Ray was born April 13, 1925, to Void J. and Hattie E. Saxton in Elba, Michigan. Ray proudly served in the United States Army during WWII as a mechanics operator in New Guinea and South Philippines for three years before receiving his Honorable Discharge on February 4, 1946. Ray worked for Buick 5511 and a sheet metal worker for Local #7 for many years until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of American Legion Post #0342. He enjoyed working with people with several companies. Ray enjoyed life, fishing, hunting, dancing and special campfires at Wolverine Campgrounds with family and friends. He enjoyed building motor homes. He was married to Delores Cash for many years.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four children, Sharon (Jack) Smith, Vickie (Phillip) Wood, Theresa Newkirk and Clinton Ray Saxton; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Onalee Mitchell and Leona Hammell; special nephew and niece, Sam and Linda Hanson and son, Dan; special friend, Laura Cox and her family.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marie Hanson.
