Obituary of Harvey W. Hecht

Of Millington, age 83, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at the St. Michael's Lutheran Church in Richville. Pastor Rob Gadeken will officiate with burial to follow in St. Michael's Cemetery. Harvey's family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Monday, from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm. On Tuesday Harvey will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Richville Conservation Club at 3270 W. Sanilac Rd, Vassar, MI 48768. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Harvey was born July 8, 1928, in Vassar, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ludwig and Bertha (Rau) Hecht. Harvey proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years before receiving his Honorable Discharge on January 27, 1956. He worked as a mechanic for General Motors until retiring in 1980's and a member of UAW Local #659. Harvey enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, fishing, spending time outdoors, traveling, playing cards and laughing, telling jokes.
Left to cherish his memory are eight children, Sheryl (Jackson)Taylor, Dennis (Kathy) Hecht, Cindy (Randy) Heginauer, Keith (Janet) Hecht, Cynthia Brown, Tony (Danielle) Bazan, Trish Sundeck, Todd (Krissy) Hecht; 26 granchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; spiritual wife, Donnie Durance; two brothers, Marvin (Jean) Hecht and Dale (Sandy) Hecht.
Harvey was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, Joan and Sandra; two sons, David and Neal Hecht; two grandsons, Zachary and Nicholas Heginauer; great-great-granddaughter, Alyson Searles and three siblings.
