My asscociation with Shirley was through her son and daughter in law Gary and Shawn, Our church, Churchill United Methodist, came to love her as well and care deeply. I know most of what I know from Shawn, What a gracious woman, kind, loving and caring. Her love for her Savior was evident and her love for her her family as well. What a helpful concerned parent, mother in law and grandparent. Gary and Shawn you brought her great joy with your family, How heer eyes twinkled as she smiled when around your children. Losing a parent is just such a huge loss, it leaves a huge blck void in your hole and you just arent sure how it will ever feel whole again. Carry on the best of her and pass her graciousness on to your children.
This poem by an unknown author speaks to me of Shirley.....it gives me comfort, I hope it does you as well.
All of the West family is in our heart and prayers. Dave & Deanna Munson
Gone.
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white
sails to the morning breeze and starts
for the blue ocean. She is an object
of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until at
length she hangs
like a speck of white cloud just
where the sea and sky come to
mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says:
"There she is gone!"
"Gone where?"
Gone from my sight. That is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull
and spar as she was when she left my
side and she is just as able to bear
her load of living freight to her
destined port.
Her diminished size is in me, not
in her. And just at that mement when
someone at my side says: "there, she is gone!" there
are other eyes
watching her coming, and other voices
ready to take up the glad shout:
"Here she comes!"
And that is dying.

My deepest sympathies go out to the West family. I was one of the many children that Shirley cared for in her home, growing up with Dan and Gary as neighbors. My condolences to Harold as well, you have all lost a special person.

Our love and sympathy to you, Harold and family. We are so sorry that we cannot visit or attend the funeral, as we had just left for Gina's out-of-town to attend some things with the boys. Wonderful memories of you guys and many laughs with Shirley & you. Thanks for always being so compassionate & caring to others. Remember when she covered us all up with afghans & let us all 'sleep' over @ your house. What a kind friend! God bless you. Love & Prayers, Tom & Norma Thompson

Shirley loved the Lord Christ and she had a generous heart. She shared kind words for all and gave special encouragement to me and Mother when Dad was at Maplewood. How kind it was that Shirley and Harold visited Dad several times when he was weak and helped raise his spirits. How pleasing it was that Shirley and Harold delivered frozen dinners several times to Mother making it easier for her last fall and winter. She was a comfort to me and Mother when Dad received his high call from the Father in January 2011. I'll miss seeing Shirley the next time I visit, but look forward to the day when I'll run into her in Heaven. She's moved. She got her upgrade.
