Of Mt. Morris, age 73, died Sunday, August 30, 2009 at Genesys Hospice Care Center. The funeral service will take place 1:00pm, Thursday, September 3, 2009 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, Rev. Fr. Francis Faraci will officiate with Graveside Military Honors to follow in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Jack's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, from 1:00pm until 8:00pm. and on Thursday, from 10:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. Jack was born June 28, 1936 in Flint, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob and Mary (Stanajtis) Szewczyk. Jack worked as a Letter Carrier for the United States Post Office in Flint before retiring in 1988. Jack was a 50 year member of The National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch #256. Jack proudly served in the Navy for two years before receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1957. Jack leaves to cherish his memory three children; daughters, Marie (Darrell) Bigbee and Techla (Jeff) Pashby; son, Tony Szewczyk; several grandchildren; brother, Raymond (Pat) Szewczyk; nephew, Keith Henderson; niece Connie Bair; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and a brother.
