Of Mt. Morris, age 87, died Monday, February 20, 2012, at her home, surrounded by family. The Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, February 25, 2012, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Father Jeff Robideau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services, Thursday, February 23, 2012, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Friday from 10:00 am until 8:00 pm. On Friday evening, friends and family will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorial contributions to the St. Mary Catholic Church or School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Helen Schings was born December 27, 1924, in Toledo, Ohio the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Peter and Genevieve (Trudeau) Schings. She and Earl Robideau were united in marriage October 25, 1946.
She was a member of the St. Mary Altar Society, served as sacristan for 30 years. She also volunteered for the Red Cross and was a coordinator of blood drives in Mt. Morris for many years. Further, she enjoyed square dancing, but her family was most important. Helen was a devoted wife and mother. She will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memory are, her husband of 65 years, Earl; seven children, Sherry Robideau, Yvonne Robideau, John and wife, Linda Robideau, Joe Robideau and fiancee, Barb Stratton, Michelle and husband, Terry Bradley, Jim and wife, Patti Robideau and Father Jeff Robideau; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one brother; three sisters; and sister-in-law, Rita Beauregard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; mother- and father-in-law, Marie and Bernard Robideau; one brother, Charles Schings; son-in-law, Nick Piazza; brother-in-law, Ed Beauregard; sister-in-law, Jo Schings; and great-grandson, Tyler Richard.
