Obituary of Thomas Garfield Franklin

age 75, of Flint, died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at home. Funeral service will be 1:30 pm, Monday, March 3, 2014, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services. Pastor David Burkett will officiate. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Sunday, 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Monday, from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:30 pm. Memorial donations may be directed to the family. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Thomas was born September 30, 1938, in Durand, the son of Garfield and Helen Franklin. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and Army. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Flint and went to work for General Motors, working at the V-8 Engine Plant for 42 years, until his retirement in 1999. He and Laura Phaneuf were united in marriage on August 31, 1963, in Grand Blanc. He was a member of the UAW # 659 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles # 629. Left to cherish his memory are two sons, Tom and wife Janette Franklin and Tracey Franklin and Michelle; two step-daughters, Kathy Wysocki and Denise Beck; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Beverly Hall and Cathy Reigle ; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Laura; grandson, Tommy; 2 brothers and 2 brothers-in-law.
