Obituary of Raymond F. Fink

Of Birch Run, age 87, died Monday, April 9, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center - Harrison. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 12, 2012, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Mr. Bill Bennett will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Ray's family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends Wednesday, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Thursday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Raymond was born May 10, 1924, in Canton, Pennsylvania, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Bertha (Helmer) Fink. He and Dema A. Williams were united in marriage on July 8, 1944; she preceded him in death in 1996. He later married Clara Smuck in 1999; she preceded him in death in 2008. In his youth, he attended public schools in New Berlin, New York. After seventh grade, he chose to work on the farm, helping his father. Raymond proudly served in the United States Army as a Light Machine Gunner 604. While overseas, he was wounded in combat on November 19, 1944. His heroism earned him a Purple Heart. After World War II, Raymond obtained a position with Remmington Arms, making guns, before switching to Remmington Rand to produce typewriters. He then left Remmington to begin his career with General Motors as a sanitation worker, where he was a member of UAW Local #359. He worked for General Motors for 22 years before retiring in 1994. In the earlier part of his life, Raymond enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as, traveling by road with his dog, Middi. He also enjoyed relaxing in front of the television. Left to cherish his memory are his five daughters, Alta Wesener, Debbie and husband, Harold Beedy, Donna and husband, Al Reno, Patricia Fink, and Cindy and husband, Mike Heit; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister Pearl Kimball; sister-in-law, Mary Fink; and many beloved nieces and nephews. Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Dema (Williams) Fink; second wife, Clara (Smuck) Fink; daughter, Bonnie Moore; five sisters, Florence, Regina, Marge, Evelyn, and Alice; and two brothers, John and Howard.
