Obituary of Wilmer Beckrow

Of Vassar, age 91, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Covenant Health Care- Cooper. The funeral service will take place Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at the Juniata Baptist Church in Vassar. Pastor Lyle Ohman will officiate with burial to follow in Millington Twp. Cemetery. Wilmer's family will be present on Monday at the Martin Funeral Home - Vassar to receive friends from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Tuesday Wilmer will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to Junaita Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Wilmer was born October 14, 1920, in Vassar, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Augusta (Schmandt) Beckrow. Wilmer retired from Millington Truck Body in 1985 after 40 years of service as an assembly worker. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, attending Juniata Baptist Church, making rocking chairs, lighthouses, picnic tables and windmills, watching birds and squirrels. Left to cherish his memory, wife, Ellen; 6 children, Dick (Helen) Beckrow, Kenneth (Fay) Beckrow, Janet Riness, Betty Holcomb, Wilmer II (Nancy) Beckrow, daughter-in-law, Ann Beckrow, 3 step-children, Viola (Tom) Dues, Mary Ann (Dale) Minkler and Elaine (David) Swadling; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Wilmer was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Gladys; son, Norman; several brothers and sisters; son-in-law, Gary Riness and daughter-in-law, Alice Beckrow.
