Obituary of Karen Lee Desmond

Of Mt. Morris, age 72, died Sunday, May 13, 2012, at Genesys Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor David Burkett will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home, Thursday from 1:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the American Diabetes and Kidney Foundations. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Karen was born April 15, 1940, in Port Huron, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Emma (Larkin) Galat. She and Gerald Alan Desmond were united in marriage March 18, 1967. Karen attended Port Huron Community College, as well as Baker Community College. She worked for Detroit Northern Loan and Savings Banking for over 25 years; retiring in 1997. She also enjoyed being an Avon representative for more than 40 years. Karen enjoyed RV camping, Facebook, reading, cooking, and holidays with family. Karen leaves to cherish her memory, loving husband of 45 years, Gerald; son, James Galat Desmond; step-son, Christopher Alan Desmond; step-daughter, Tamara Ilene Desmond; six grandchildren, Kayle Elizabeth Ann Desmond, Jamie Lee Ann Desmond, Roy Desmond Roach, Rychel Lynn Roach, Ciara Joleen Desmond, and Joshua Joseph Truitt Desmond; two sisters, Lynda Kay Humphreys and Janice Ann and husband, James King; and many loving family members, friends, and loving dog, Lexi. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Warren Michael Galat; brother-in-law, Clyde Earl Humphreys; and several other family members. The family would like to thank Genesys Hospital Staff, Dr. Lewis and staff, Dr. Sayal and staff, and RRC Dialysis and staff for the care they all gave to Karen.
