Obituary of Edward J Pitek

Of Flint, age 92, died Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at Pines of Burton. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Friday, July 13, 2012, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor David Burkett will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 11:30 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Edward was born April 24, 1920, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Jadwiga (Wojtkowicz) Pitek. He and Elena Whitfield were united in marriage November 16, 1946. Edward worked as a payroll clerk for General Motors for 38 years, before retiring in 1980. He also proudly served his country in the Army Air Corps, as a First Sergeant, where he earned a Bronze Star. Edward enjoyed golfing and sports. Left to cherish his memory are, wife of 65 years, Elena; sister, Jeanette Kornas; nieces and nephews, Ray and wife, Faye Brandon, Donna and husband, Timothy Ryan, Marlene and husband, Dennis Schroff, Lana and husband, Greg Martell, Chester Pitek Jr., Jim and wife, Lori Kornas, Ed and wife, Denise Kornas, Marice Kornas, and Ken and wife, Holly Kornas. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Chet Pitek Sr.; sister, Julia Dannis; brother-in-law, Zigmund Kornas; sisters-in-law, Jewel Brandon and Ann Wolfe; and nephew Ron Kornas.
