Obituary of Arlene M. McDermaid

Of Mt. Morris, age 84, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at Living Joy in Flushing. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 12:00 noon, Thursday, July 19, 2012 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Arlene's family will be present at the Martin Funeral, Cremation and Tribute Services to receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday evening, family, friends and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 6:00pm. On Thursday morning, Arlene will be taken to church to lie in state from 11:00 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 12:00 noon. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Mary's School or Genesys Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Arlene was born January 25, 1928 in Manistique, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence and Marie (Theisen) McNamara. She and Bill McDermaid were united in marriage August 26, 1950 in Mt. Morris. After attaining her teacher's certificate, she moved to the Mt. Morris area where she was a teacher in the Mt. Morris School System for many years, retiring in 1984. She was also a member of the National and Michigan Education Associations. Arlene was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the Altar Society. Left to cherish her memory husband, Bill; three children; Kathy and husband, Steve Middleditch, Kelli and husband, Chris Thompson and Joe and wife, Jackie McDermaid; seven grandchildren; Keri and husband Tare Wigod, Wendy and husband Tom Boike, Curtis and wife Hali Thompson, Katie and husband Keith Phillips, Tracy and husband Josh Taylor, Tim and wife Kristen McDermaid and Becky and husband Tony Neumann, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Joyce Butler; brother, Bob and wife Dianne McNamara, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jim McNamara. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of both Living Joy in Flushing and Genesys Hospice.
