Obituary of John Walter Murray

Of Mt. Morris, age 63, died Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at the Frankenmuth Lutheran Home. The memorial service will take place 3:30pm, Friday, September 7, 2012 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Erik Cloeter will officiate. Cremation has taken place. John's family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Friday from 1:00pm to 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. John was born May 24, 1949 in Flint the son of Mr. and Mrs. John "Jack" II and Hazel (Doe) Murray. In 1968, he began working with his family at Carpets by Murray in Mt. Morris, a business he owned and operated for 43 years, prior to their closing in 2011. He also owned Creative Video in Mt. Morris for many years and served as a Captain of the Genesee Belle for a few years. He enjoyed traveling and fishing the Great Lakes on his Bayliner, playing the guitar, golfing, MSU football, and mostly, his grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Jennifer Riendeau of Clio, Cynthia and husband Don Head of Galloway, Ohio, Benjamin John and wife Katherine Murray of Canton, Massachusetts, nine grandchildren, especially Jordan, Rachel and Lukey, and John was anxiously awaiting his 10th in January, Joseph Walter Murray, mother, Hazel Murray, sister, Mary Ann and husband Ken Gebhardt, best friends, Mike and Laura Bunting, and several nieces and nephews and many friends. John was preceded in death by his father.
