Obituary of Emily M. Briggs

Of Vassar, age 92, died Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Frankenmuth Lutheran Home. The funeral service will take place, 11:00 am, Saturday, September 8, 2012, at the Frankenmuth United Methodist Church in Frankenmuth. Pastor David Eardley will officiate with burial to follow in Tuscola Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Emily will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Frankenmuth United Methodist Church or American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Emily was born December 4, 1919, in Remus, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Merel (Goodsell) Hewlett. She and Clark Briggs were united in marriage on January 21, 1940, in Flint. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Emily was a faithful member of the Frankenmuth United Methodist Church. Left to cherish her memory is eight children, Patricia and husband, Ron Cowper, Betty Poulos, Nancy and husband, Tony Robinson, Mary and husband, Gary Heusted, Tom and wife, Claudia Briggs, Douglas and wife Hazel Briggs, Tim and wife, Monica Briggs and Greg Briggs; two sons-in-law, Arnold and wife, Ruth Petzold, and Hans and wife, Renee Krause; daughter-in-law, Lucille Briggs; 25 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many great-great grandchild; sister, Betty St.Clair and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Clark; four children, Randy Briggs, Karen Petzold, Sue Krause, and Larry Briggs; son-in-law, Donald Poulos; two grandchildren, Nicole Briggs and Aiden Poulos; brother, Donald Hewlett; sisters, Marvel Wheelock and Arlene Ackerman.
