Of Fairgrove, age 94, died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. The funeral service will take place Saturday October 27, at the Fairgrove United Methodist Church. The family will be at the church to receive friends from 10:00am until the time of the service at 11:00am. Pastor Daniel Gonder will officiate with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Visitation will take place at Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove on Friday, October 26, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Fairgrove United Methodist Church or the Fairgrove public library. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Alex was born May 26, 1918 in Minot, North Dakota, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred and Lena (P) Bondarenko. He and Bernice Hickey were united in marriage on February 24, 1940. Alex, a life long farmer, enjoyed spending winters in Florida with his wife. While enjoying the sunshine, he won many trophies at the shuffle board court, and went to many local high school sporting events. Alex loved spending time with his family and friends, playing cards, and hot apple pies. He was also a very patriotic person that was proud to be an American.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Judy and husband Gary Harrington; grandchildren, Patrick and wife Karen Sheridan, Michael and wife Kelly Sheridan, Shawn and wife Leslie Sheridan, Jodie and husband Dan Dolgner, and Heather Harrington; 11 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; seven siblings, Prince, Mary, John, Paul, Donald, Hank, and Clint, and many other special family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bernice; daughter, Barbara Sheridan; grandson, Thomas Sheridan, and two siblings, Vera and Jack.
