Just read in the Flint Journal about Joe's death. We are so sorry about your loss. Kami and baby daughter, Anjalee, were just in town this past week end from Boston and we were reminiscing about gymnastics and how the group was so close. Please accept our deepest sympathies.

Joe Sr. I am going to miss you terribly my friend. The Kentucky golf trip is my favorite time of the year. Joe invited me to participate with his son and many friends. Without him, I would never had experienced such a wonderful time and the wonderful friends I have made because of him. I will never forget him, his generosity, and his friendship. My sincere condolences to Joey and all of the family for their loss. Like AJ, I too look forward to celebrating Joe Sr. life and sharing fond memories of him.

Joe Sr. was a fun loving father figure to me and all of Joey's friends from the Grand Rapids Area. Senior (as we called him in KY) met most of us during the annual infamous golf trips to Kentucky, which he organized for the past 20 some years (Senior's favorite week of the year.) He always treated us like we were his long lost sons, making sure we had a great time and always ensuring we had plenty to eat. He loved to brag about his grandchildren, wanted to hear how all of our kids were doing, and gave advice like a grandfather. Senior fully enjoyed the golfing but seemed the love the evenings even more when we were eating dinner, laughing, and talking smack to each about golfing and shenanigans that had taken place that day. Senior's favorite part of trip was simply spending time with his son Joey and his friends. He was a giving and kind-hearted person who would truly give you the shirt off his back (and many of us saw him looking like a fuzzy bear with his shirt off in Kentucky during many funny moments.) Joe Sr. will be missed by all that knew him, but he will never be forgotten by any of us who have shared those great times with him. To all of Joe's family: please except my family's sincere condolences for your loss. I look forward to celebrating Joe Senior's life and laughing about all our memories of him (just the way he would want it) while continuing his Kentucky golf trip tradition along with many of Joe's lifelong friends, his son Joey, and all of us "kids" that he treated as sons.

Mr. Garcia was so kind to my daughters every time he saw them. On a beautiful day in May last year, I had the pleasure of sharing a conversation with "Papi" on Kristen's back porch. We talked about how special and funny little kids are. His love for his family, especially his grandkids, was so evident. My sincere condolences to all who loved him!
