Obituary of Robert David Torrey

Of Vassar, age 79, died Friday, December 13, 2013, at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, December 16, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Vassar. Pastor Darwin Highlen will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday December 14, 2013, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, Sunday from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Monday Robert will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Holiness Missionary Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Robert was born September 23, 1934, in Vassar, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman and Harriet (Fuller) Torrey. He and Ruth Torrey were united in marriage September 25, 1954, in Vassar. Robert was employed with Eaton/Grede Foundry from 1960 to 1996 as a forklift operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and a good card game. He also enjoyed family gatherings and cooking for large crowds. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruth; five children, Ken (Stephanie) of Vassar, Bryan (Karen) of Vassar, Kevin (Julie) of Millington, Barry (Tina) of Mayville, Kirk (Carol) of Millington, brother Russell Torrey of Erie, Penn. and sister Fran Maiers of Davison, MI; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Dale and Jerry, and sister Normaline.
