Obituary of Dolores I. Smith

Of Mt. Morris, age 83, died Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at McLaren-Flint. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Monday from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Monday evening, family and friends will gather to pray the Rosary at 6:00 pm. Tuesday morning, Dolores will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of Funeral Mass at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or Susan G. Komen for the Cure of Breast Cancer. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Dolores was born December 16, 1929 in Flint, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry and Nellie (Stroughton) Ross. She and James Smith were united in marriage on July 2, 1949. Sadly, he preceded her in death on April 28, 2010. Dolores graduated high school in 1949. She spent 12 years working as a school bus driver for Kearsley Schools. Dolores loved plants and was known for her "green thumb." She loved to watch games shows with her dog, Spike; she was a girl scout leader, enjoyed reading novels, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. After her retirement she spent time traveling with her husband to Arizona and Florida.
Dolores leaves to cherish her memory, son, Robert and wife, Mary Smith, two daughters, Yvonne and husband, William Harris, and Connie Smith, five grandchildren, Rebecca and husband, Nick Singelis, Bryon Harris, Corie and husband, Paul McGinnis, Kevin Smith and fiance, Sharlene Yehle, Michael and wife, Shannon Smith and Mary Ann and husband, John Martin, nine great-grandchildren, Alexandria, Mason, Eleanor, Nicko, Brendan, Emalie, Kayla, Nicholas, Selena, Randy and Hunter, one great great-granddaughter, Payton and special friend, Tery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, James A Smith, sisters, Shirley and Dorla, son-in-law, John C. Smith and great-grandchildren, Madison and Luke.
