Obituary of Kathy Platko-O'Brien

Of Mt. Morris, age 49, died Friday, April 5, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family. Mass of Christian burial will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, April 13, 2013, at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with cremation to follow. Kathy's family will be present to receive friends on Friday at the Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm. On Friday evening family, friends and parish will gather to pray the Rosary Service at 6:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or to the Mt. Morris High School Girls Softball Program. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Kathy was born April 25, 1963, in Saginaw, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald and Jean (Vescio) Platko. Kathy's happiest day in her life was September 22, 2012, when she became Mrs. Tom O'Brien in Mt. Morris. Kathy worked for Nexteer in Saginaw for 7 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, coaching softball, traveling to the ocean, Niagara Falls, Caseville and going to the Cheeseburger Festival, bowling, shopping, golfing and collecting Betty Boop memorabilia. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Tom; daughter Megan McCullough, three step-children; Michael (Katie), Steven O'Brien and Kattie O'Brien; two grandchildren, Lilly and Owen O'Brien; parents Gerald and Jean Platko; brother and sisters; David (Nancy) Platko, Audrey (Phil) Stahle, Pamela (Marty) Rankin; mother-in-law, Ann O'Brien; many nieces, nephews and her special four legged friend Nikita. Kathy's family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hurley Genesys Cancer Institute Chemo Nurses, Kat's softball girls and to Rebecca Taylor from Home & Hospice Advantage. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents.
