Obituary of Roy J. Harms

Age 88, of Vassar, went to join his wife Mary in heaven on Wednesday, April 9, 2014. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, April 12, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Cabrini Church in Vassar. Roy's family will be present at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Friday, April 11, 2014, from 3:00 pm till 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Roy will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of mass at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Jude's Children Hospital. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Roy was born in January 1926. He and Mary Carl were united in marriage on June 5, 1947, in Mt. Clemens. Sadly, she preceded him in death on October 8, 2007. Roy proudly served in the United States Air Force. He owned and operated Harms Food Mart Top of the Hill Vassar for 11 years. He also worked for Vassar Electroloy for 11 years. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an Old-School Gentleman to the end. Left to cherish his memory are children, Nancy and husband, Bill Ramey, Jim and wife, Shelly Harms, Betty and husband, Jim Sharar, David and wife, Jerri Harms and Cheryl and husband, Al Goodman; 11 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary; son, Bernard and brother, Elmer. The family would like to send a special thanks to the staff at Sterling House of Saginaw.
