Obituary of Leighton Elwood Kohn

Of Flint, age 79, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Friday, June 14, 2013 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Mr. Vernon Lawrence will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Leighton's family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm on Friday from 11:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to Genesys Hurley Cancer Institute or to the family to be donated to little league baseball programs. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Leighton was born April 8, 1934, in Sherman Township, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Ida (Cox) Kohn. Leighton graduated from Tawas High School, Class of 1952. He and Donna Jean Kohn were united in marriage June 14, 1952, in Bay City, Michigan. After working with the Gypsum Company for 13 years, he worked at Buick for 33 years before retiring in 1997. Leighton enjoyed playing baseball and softball up until 2011, snowmobiling, hunting, camping, spending time with family and friends, enjoying family time at their cabin up north.
Left to cherish his memory, four children, Gale Prieur with John Georgette, Wilma and husband, Bob Simms, Leighton Kohn with Aleshia DeCoe, and Mike and wife, JoAnne Kohn; six grandchildren, Jennifer and husband, Eldon Faulkner, Gregory and wife, Kelly Prieur, Adam and wife, Andrea Prieur, Stacie and husband, Steve Mata, Michael, Jr. and wife, Samantha Kohn, Kaylyn Kohn with Charles Leach, and Taylor Evans; ten great-grandchildren, Zoe, Conner, Preston, Brayden, Maliah, Ella, Landon, Colton, Michael III and Bentlee; brother Herb and wife Regina Kohn and extended family Teresa Barkman and Jeni Bolan.
Leighton was preceded in death by his parents, and wife, Donna Jean Kohn, son-in-law, Greg Prieur, granddaughter, Leslie Simms, three brothers, George, Howard and Allen and four sisters, Helen, Minnie, Alma and Arlene.
