Obituary of Velma Kathleen Olson

Of Flint, age 94, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Shelby Nursing Center. The funeral service will take place 2:00 pm, Monday, December 23, 2013 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Chaplain Jim Salo will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, December 23, 2013, from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Beaumont Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Velma was born May 30, 1919, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Anna (Rust) Schrader. She and Elmer Olson were united in marriage May 22, 1937 in Indiana. She proudly was a graduate of the first graduating class of Beecher High School in 1937. She worked for General Motors Ternstedt from 20 years, retiring in 1976. She recently resided at American House North in Flint for the past four years and in her free time could be found tending to her floral garden on her balcony. She also enjoyed reading, decorating inside the house, watching golf on the weekends and spending time with her loved ones. Left to cherish her memory are children, Terry and wife, Sharlene Olson, Cindy and husband, Richard Kowalski and Sherrill and husband, Dan Juliette; six grandchildren, Russell, Gary, Kathi, Dan, Abigail and Brian; great grandchildren, Kendra, Shawn, Marty, Kaity, Jousha and Cody. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elmer; and sister, Iva.
