Obituary of Michael Leroy Walker

Of Mayville, age 66, died Friday, July 19, 2013, at St. Mary Hospital in Saginaw. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Mayville, Pastor Terry Balogh will officiate. A private burial will be held at Great Lakes National Cemetery with graveside military honors. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Monday, from 12 noon to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Monday evening, the Mayville Fire Department will hold a service at 7:00 pm. On Tuesday, Michael will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Organ Fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.
Michael "Mick" was born December 24, 1946, in Mayville, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent and Winifred (Crosby) Walker. He and Nancy Lee Krull were united in marriage October 26, 1968.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army. Upon his Honorable Discharge from the military, Michael went back to work at Buick for 41 years, retiring in 2003. He was a member of the UAW # 599. Michael served on the Mayville Fire Department for 25 years. After retirement he worked for Bronners and Martin Funeral Home. Michael was a member of the American Legion # 181 of Mayville and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he served in a variety of capacities. Mick loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, golfing, and attending sporting events.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 45 years, Nancy; two children, Michelle and husband, Ty Amend and Jon and wife, Poupe Walker; five grandchildren, Zach, Ryan, Logan, Matthew and Quinton; mother, Winnie Walker; brother, Ronald Walker; sister, Lisa and husband, LaVern Franks; and many special in-laws; nieces; nephews and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his father.
