Of Mt. Morris, age 84, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at Avalon Hospice. A memorial service will take place 1:00pm, Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris. Pastor Betty Gamboa will officiate with burial to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 from 12:00 until time of service at 1:00. Memorial donations may be considered to Masonic F & AM # 535 , the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Morris, otr the Flint Memorial Home American Legion. Envelopes are available at church..
Robert was born April 9, 1923 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Bernice (Messer) Eckert. He and Nelsolene AaA"Pat" Eckert were united in marriage September 19, 2003 in Mt. Morris. Bob was employed as an engineer for General Motors, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris, where he belonged to the choir and held various church positions. Bob was a life member of the Masonic Lodge F&AM # 535. He also belonged to the 32 nd Scottish Rite of Bay City.
Bob served in WWII in the Invasion of Normandy landing on Omaha Beach. He served in the 608 Corps of Engineers, where he was wounded in the line of duty. He belonged to the American Legion # 342, VFW #5666, and the DAV.
Bob leaves to cherish his memory his wife Pat, daughter Deborah and husband Clifford Lacy, 6 grandchildren Andrea and husband Ron, Adam and wife Juli, and their son Gavin, Sherry and husband Troy, Michael, Deborah, and Pamela, sister Dorothy Parsell, 2 step daughters Roxanne and husband Mark Laney, and Marianne and husband Randall Garland, 3 step grandchildren, 5 step great grandchildren, 1 step great-great grandson., nieces and nephews.
Special friends, Dale Bolerjack, Jim Leach, and Don Sprague.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Maybel, son Michael, step son Craig, 2 brothers Gilbert and Jackson, and 1 sister Louise.
