I'm sorry that we never really got along when I was a kid, but I'm glad that things changed over the years and we became friends as I got older. I'm also glad that you had a chance to meet my daughter, Shiloh, and that you loved her just as much as you loved me.\
\
Some of the fun things I remember: being "fingerprinted" at the police department; you trying to hide that fact that you were a woman during a men's basketball game between the fire departments, riding to Illinois sharing the backseat with our dog, Lady; and lots of other things....\
\
I know you were just a step-mom, but you'll always hold a special place in my heart.\

Colleen was so very special to me and I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Colleen at the Mt. Morris City Police Department for seven years until she retired and I will always have such good memories of all the good times we had. She taught me a lot about my job as dispatcher, and there wasn't a day that I worked with her, that we weren't laughing about something. She had a sense of humor that was outstanding and always kept us in stitches. She could be tough on the outside at times, but had a heart of gold. Regardless of who you were or what your problems were, she was always there willing to help. Her "Girls" were the highlight of her light and taking care of "Mom" meant so much to her. I am sorry I am not able to be there at this time, but all of you are in my prayers. \

I can remember meeting you for the first time at mom's work, I have to admit I was a little intimidated. But little did I know that over time you would soon become not only my mothers great friend but like an aunt to me. You were one to always tell me how it was and to tell me that I was being a brat, but you had a heart of gold. You would have dropped everything to help me or anyone. I will always remember you being a sport when it came to mom and I dragging you out shopping to other stores besides Cabella's, and you know that we love to shop! I think the best was when you and mom picked me up from school and we took you baby clothes shopping for me!! You would have never admitted it but I know that you had fun that day! I will always remember getting excited when you would come to visit us with "The Girls" because we didn't get to see you that often. We have had many wonderful times! I will miss you Colleen, and wish that you could have met Izabelle, you would have loved her too! Thanks for being such a great friend to my mom, I will always think of you!!\

Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow. Colleen held a very special place in my family and was a "adopted sister" to my own sister, Joann Novak. She was truly regarded as a member of the Walling family. I will always miss her funny stories and tough as nails attitude. She honorably served her community through all of her years of hard work in law enforcement and as a police officer. While her passing is such a shock to all of us who loved her dearly, we can take refuge and find peace in the knowledge that she is in a place free from pain and sadness. The love that embraced her while on Earth, surely guided her path into Eternity. On behalf of myself, Aric Watts and the Walling family, you have our sincerest and most heartfelt condolences. Colleen will be missed beyond what words can express. Love to you all. \
