I wish there were more small time doctors who cared like you. Vassar lost a great doctor when you retired and now a friend as well!! RIP DOC~

Dr. Elmendorf was our family doctor for most of his 51 years of his practice. My Grandma Suzanne Service Rogner went to him when she was pregnant for the first time in 1949. The one fondest memory our family has came from her. She was petite as a young lady and she gain alot of weight for her first pregnancy. Dr. Elmendorf was very concerned and told her she was being put on a strict diet for the rest of her pregnancy. She agreed and left his office. She went around the corner and down to William's Drug Store. Sitting at the ice cream counter she ordered the largest hot fudge sundae they had. She took a spoonful and looked up and there stood Dr. Elmendorf! Needless to say he gave her a tongue lashing and the rest is history! That story was shared over the years between them. Dr. Elmendorf was there for my mother's pregnancy for me. I was still born and they were about to pronounce me when Dr. Elmendorf said not yet and after five minutes of trying to bring me around tried one more time and here I am 38 years later. Dr. Elmendorf was a great person and a great doctor. When he announced his retirement it was a sad day for Vassar and our family. It has been hard ever since to find a doctor like him. We will never find one as there will only be one. May his family feel the prayers that are sent to them by my family and all the other families in Vassar whom Dr. Elmendorf has touched. God Bless!
