Obituary of Helen M. Rice

Of Fairgrove, age 91, died Tuesday, June 12, 2012, at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, June 16, 2012, at the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove. Pastor James Sheldrake will officiate with burial to follow in Gilford Cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home, Friday from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm and Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the First Baptist Church-Millington. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Helen was born September 1, 1920, in Gilford, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank and Myrtle (Weiss) Guthrie. She and Vern Rice were united in marriage May 4, 1985. Helen enjoyed singing and playing her Hawaiian guitar and sewing clothes for her family. Left to cherish her memory are husband, Vern; son, Clare and wife, Carol Kreger; two grandchildren, Carrie and husband, Dennis Whitehead and Cal and wife, Savnnah Kreger; four grandchildren, Isaac Whitehead and Owen, Evan, and Liam Kreger; sister, Harriet and husband, John Hunt; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Norman, Paul, and Walter "Newt"; and three sisters, Arlene, Gwendolyn, and Merriam.
