Obituary of Ruth Torrey

Of Vassar, age 79, died Friday, March 7, 2014, at Wellspring Lutheran Home in Frankenmuth. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Monday, March 10, 2014, at the First Baptist Church of Vassar. Pastor Darwin Highlen will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery. Family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Saturday March 8, 2014, from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and Sunday, March 9, 2014, from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm. On Monday, Ruth will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Holiness Missionary Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Ruth was born August 18, 1934, in Mayville, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. LaRue and Waneta (Smith) Kribs. She and Robert Torrey were united in marriage September 25, 1954, in Vassar. Ruth was a home maker and raising her five boys was a challenge and a joy. She enjoyed church activities especially missions work, doing word puzzles, playing board and card games which included Uno. She also loved traveling and staying in hotels and dining out. Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Ken (Stephanie) of Vassar, Bryan (Karen) of Millington, Kevin (Julie) of Millington, Barry (Tina) of Mayville, Kirk (Carol) of Millington; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; sister, Alta Maud Grimshaw of Morehead, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert and brothers, Bob and Don Kribs.
